FIBAN reacts over shutdown media houses in kwara

The Kwara State Chapter of the Freelance Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria has called on the Kwara State Government to immediately address the needs of the media houses for them to call off the ongoing industrial action.

A statement issued to newsmen by the State Chairman of the FIBAN, Mr. Sola Seriki, said the situation at Radio Kwara is sad and pathetic, pointing out that the station is one of the heritage of the state that must not die.

The statement kicked against the proposed sale of the Broadcasting House at GRA, saying that the plan to sell the lands within the premises of the station is uncalled for.

It called on the government to listen to the calls and demands of the staff of media houses, especially on the sack of the sole administrator, stressing the need to return the management of the media houses to their respective management under the supervision of the Ministry of information and Communication.

FIBAN sympathized with the staff of media houses, particularly that of Radio Kwara on the poor working condition and lack of necessary equipment to work in a modern digital era of radio broadcasting.

The Association pledged its support to the ongoing agitation of media workers and called on the key stakeholders particularly the Senate President, Doctor Bukola Saraki, all the traditional rulers in the state under the leadership of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari and the entire people of Kwara state to intervene to save the media houses from total collapse.
