The Kwara State Government is to engage some selected community development associations of repute for effective implementation of the monthly environmental exercise in the state.
The government said it was disturbed by the nonchalant attitude of critical stakeholders in ensuring the success of the exercise.
The Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Alhaji Amosa Isiaka Al-amin disclosed this on Saturday (January 27, 2018) during a press briefing at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry shortly after the completion of this month environmental sanitation exercise.
Al-amin explained that the engagement of community development associations becomes necessary because the environmental sanitation is synonymous with communal efforts those associations are championing and their closeness to the people at the grass root level will be of great help and assistance for the success of the exercise.
He hinted that the engagement of the associations and other relevant bodies like Okada rider associations, the association of tricycle riders and others would take effect from February sanitation exercise.
The Permanent Secretary noted that arrangement had been concluded to convey a stakeholder meeting at his ministry with the development associations and others bodies to collectively chart a way forward for the effective monitoring and implementation of the sanitation exercise in the state.
He stated further that the ministry would map out a new strategy to ensure that all hands are on deck in order to encourage other collaborating agencies like security personnel develop a mental positive attitude towards the successful monitoring and implementation of the exercise.
However, not less than 165 people were arrested and tried in various mobile courts within Ilorin metropolis for violating monthly environmental sanitation laws.
