Al-Maiyaki Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) School, Akerebiata area, Ilorin, has emerged overall winner of the just concluded annual Balogun Gambari Youth Movement (BAGYUM) Primary School Quiz Competition.
Pake LGEA Primary School took the second position while Okesuna School ‘A’ clinched the third position.
The 4th edition of the competition which held at Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Secretariat, Akerebiata area, Ilorin featured 18 primary schools across the Balogun Gambari District as participants at the competition.
Presenting the prizes to the best-performing pupils on the occasion, the PM III of the Kwara state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Shuaib Baba Gbadungbadun commended the organizer of the competition for contributing its quotas towards the educational standard within its district.
Gbadugbadun said the government was happy with the idea as the programmes would consolidate government frantic efforts in providing sound and qualitative education right at the elementary level.
He pledged that the state government would continue to support and assist individuals and private organizations that attach seriousness to programmes and projects that will significantly impact on lives of the people.
He advised other youth organizations across the state to take a cue from the lofty projects and programmes of Balogun Gambari Youth Movement so as to collectively move the country forward as the government can not do it alone.
Earlier in his address, the President of the association, Mallam Garuba Mukaila Safura said the annual competition was organized to catch the pupils young.
Safura explained that the idea of the quiz which is fourth of its kind in the series of the competition was basically mapped out to motivate the school-age children and imbibe good reading culture in them.
He disclosed that prizes like standing fans, warmers, educational materials and a lot more worth over N100, 000 were disbursed to various winners including the best performing pupil award.
Dignitaries in attendance included the Education Secretary of Ilorin East and West Local Government Authority, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulrauf and Alhaji Usman Animasahun respectively; the HOS, Quality Assurance of Ilorin East LGEA, Alhaji Oniye Abdulwahab Muhammad; Desk Officer, Literary and Debating, Ilorin East LGEA, Mr Saheed Ayinde; the Head Master of Al-Maiyaki LGEA School, Mrs Abdulrahaman; the President of Balogun Gambari Ward Develoment Association, Alhaji Mustapha Abdulquadri; the pioneer president of BGYUM and the immediate past president of BAGYUM, Alhaji Isiaka Amosa Al-Amin and Mallam Sulaiman Idris respectively among others.
