Why KWSG embarked on evacuation of beggars, lunatics in Ilorin metropolis- Afolashade

…evacuates 31 beggars, 10 lunatics so far

“Kwara State will not condone any act of street begging, as it depicts laziness and also litters the environ while wandering lunatics can also pose danger to the society.”

The Kwara State Commissioner for Social Development, Hon. Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade,  has said that the rationale behind the evacuation of beggars and lunatics across Ilorin metropolis by the state government was to rid the state capital  of uncleanliness, societal vices, as well as to also rehabilitate the affected citizens. 

Hon. Afolashade disclosed this during the official flag-off of the evacuation exercise in Ilorin, saying that the exercise became imperative in view of the notable criminal activities being indulged by some criminal minded citizens who disguise as beggars or lunatics to parpetrate evil.

The Evacuation Team from the State Ministry for Social Development toured the Post Office, Tipper Garage , Offa Garage and Geri Alimi axis of Ilorin metropolis where  no fewer than 10 lunatics and 31 beggars were evacuated during the flag-off of the exercise and were taken to one of the Ministry’s rehabilitation homes for treatment and subsequently, repatriation.

In a statement signed by the press secretary of the ministry,  Oluwole Damilola, the Commissioner disclosed that the evacuation exercise was part of the Ministry’s responsibilities and a means to further ensure that the society is cleansed of any societal deface  and environmental insanity.

The Commissioner said “Kwara State will not condone any act of street begging, as it depicts laziness and also litters the environ while wandering lunatics can also pose danger to the society.”

She further explained that some beggars and lunatics are harmful to the society and are evil perpetrators who disguise to carry out their dastardly acts, warning those indulging in such acts to desist or be ready to face the wrath of the law.

Other members of the Evacuation Team were the Director, Rehabilitation, Mr. Taiye J. Ikupolati and other members of staff of the Directorate.
