…..As FCT Education secretary tasks students on hard work
Federal Capital Territory, Education Secretariat Abdulrasak Lermo has advised school pupils in FCT to be serious and diligent to their studies so as to achieve a high standard of education.
Acting Secretary, Education Secretariat Lermo gave the advice during a Scholarship award ceremony to Senior Secondary School Student, David Danbaba.
The Education scribe specifically urged the school age children in Nigeria to accord utmost priority to their studies, saying that seriousness to their studies will afford them the opportunity to realize their dreams of becoming great future leaders pointing out that they are truly the future of this great nation.
Leramo who was represented by the Deputy Director, School Services in the Education Secretariat, Mohammed Gupa, noted that the award which was as a result of obedient of the Child which occurred as a result joining School Authority in Tree Planting Project organised by an NGO, JAM- Initiative and Pegi Development Association for the laudable project
According to the Acting Secretary, “ This shows that you consider Children as the future of this great nation and you are contributing in no small measure to the growth of Nigeria”.
The President of JAM Initiative, Mrs Josie Mudasiru said after the Tree Planting Exercise to commemorate Nigeria’s 61st Independence, some videos of the event went viral and a Philanthropist, who happens to be a lawyer and an environmentalist saw the video in far away United Kingdom in which young Danbaba answered a question on Climate Change and decided to offer him Scholarship.
Mrs Mudasiru said that it is the turn of David Danbaba today but she believes that as the Students continue to work hard and give back to the Society in whatever they can, their turn will come.
In a video call with the Philanthropist, Barrister Angus McAngus, said he was moved by what he saw and decided to train the young lad. The Scholarship include his health care and also encouraged the other Students to be hardworking.
He said, “Since I moved to UK, I have been following up developments in the community so when a video was shared on the community platform, I decided to watch it to the end and I noticed that while there was question and answer , David raised his hand and the way he answered I was impressed and decided to ask one of the resident executives to help him look for the boy.
“I want to encourage the boy by my actions and words . My motivation is to support him and also encourage other students that whatever you do, do it well. So I have decided to give him a scholarship up to his tertiary education. I have decided to also adopt you and want to encourage David not to loose focus but to be more focus and work hard”.
The Parents of David Danbaba, Pastor Bitrus and Mrs Augusta Danbaba were overwhelmed with joy.
The mother said, ” We are internally grateful and we thank God. She recalled that when David her son asked her permission to come for the tree planting event, (the tree planting was in commenmorate Nigeria’s 61st Independence Anniversary) I said no because to me, there are so many other students, why pick David. But he begged me and also persisted that the school authority asked them to come and he wanted to go and he won. My advice to children is that they should always obey their parents at all times”.
The School Principal, Mr Kelly Asemota said he was glad such an event was taking place in his School. He said it will serve as a morale booster to other Students that obedience and hardwork pays.
He said some of the Students that were asked to come that day to assist the NGO in Planting Trees did not turn up but David has reaped the reward of being obedient.
Mr Asemota appreciated the NGO for choosing G.S.S Abuja@30 for their intervention, The Education Secretariat for identifying with the project, his Vice Principals, the PTA leaders that were present , PECDA, and the Students for making the School proud.
The Director, Secondary School Education Board, Mrs Nanre Emeje who was unavoidably absent sent a delegation to witness the Ceremony.
This included a Deputy Director, Co- Corricular, Mr Jimoh Enaye and Mr Henry Mamman.
Chairman Pegi Community, led by Aderibigbe Isaac Taiwo commended the NGO for the good work towards ensuring sustainable development in Pegi community.
