Falowo emerges Unilorin SSANU Chair


Comrade Naheem Olusola Falowo has emerged the new Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), University of Ilorin branch.

Falowo, in a keenly contested election of the Union held on Wednesday, 23rd June, 2021 at the University of Ilorin, polled 257 votes as against his sole opponent, Comrade O J Oyedepo who polled 251 votes.


Announcing the results of the election, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Com. (Engr.) Joseph S. Adebayo said that Com. Naheem Olusola Falowo won the election with six votes having recorded 257 votes against his sole rival, Oyedepo who polled 251 votes.

With this change of batons, the new elected executive council will steer the affairs of the Union for the next four years.


Com. (Engr.) Tunde Saheed won the position of Secretary after scoring 325 votes to defeat his opponent Com. Usman Mohammed who scored 181 votes.


For the position of Treasurer, Com. Abdulsalam A. Kolapo polled 263 votes to defeat his opponent, Com. Ahmed B. Busari who polled 241 votes.


The Assistant Secretary position was won by Com. Atanlogun B. Oluwaseun who polled 284 votes against his opponent, Com. Oba Aremu who polled 213 votes.


Com. Wahab Kazeem emerged the position of Financial Secretary by polling 321 votes to defeat Com. Azobu Lucky who polled 182.


The position of Trustee was won by Com. Bello Cornelius with 313 votes while his opponent, Com. Ajao Mohammed polled 216 votes.


The position of the Vice-Chairman went to Com. Jimoh B. Kamaldeen, who was declared unopposed. Com. Oluwasegun T. Alabi returned as the Public Relations Officer unopposed, while Com. Abimbola Alabi and Babalola M. Oladunni were also declared unopposed for the positions of Ex-Officio and Women Leader, respectively.


Commenting on the conduct of the election, the National President, SSANU, Com. Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim who was represented by the National Vice President (West), Com. AbdulSalaam Abdusobbr commended the conduct of the election, describing it as free, fair, peaceful and credible.


In his acceptance speech, the new SSANU Chairman, Com. Falowo remarked ‘’that in today’s contest, there is no victor nor vanquished. We only went to the poll to play a friendly game. The game was meant to make us stronger than tearing us apart’’. He added that Since the aim of all the contestants was to better the lots and welfare of members, ‘’I am pleading that our unity and cooperation reign high, and that is what I am soliciting from all and sundry.’’


High point of the event was the swearing in of the new Executive Council which was conducted by the National Vice President (West), Com. AbdulSalaam Abdusobbr.
