MMGIVIT opens free zone for people to pick items of their choice

Not less than 1,000 indigent people in kwara state have benefitted from this year edition of the free distribution of valuable items by an Ilorin-based charitable organization, ‘MMGIVIT Charity Initiative’.


The materials distributed are  clothes, electronics, home appliances, kitchen utensils, and pack of local rice among other valuables.

The event climaxed the programmes that were lined up for this year’s edition of the MMGIVIT Charity Initiative annual programme which equally featured the  birthday of the convener, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi of the faculty of Law, University of Ilorin.


The train of the 5th edition of the MMGIVIT Charity Initiative took off on Wednesday (January 22, 2020) with career counseling for 10 students each drawn from 20 selected secondary schools across the state and followed by interactive session on Mental Health Issues with Community Development Associations in the state.

 Thursday, January, 23rd 2020 featured Poetry Competition among the participated schools, both events held at Africa Peoples Hall, Onikanga, street, Ilorin, the state capital while the grand finale took place on Saturday with distribution of food items (raw local rice), wears for all ages, Television, rechargeable fans, set of computers, clippers, children toys, and many more.

Speaking during the distribution exercise that held at the premises of Queen Hall, Unity road Ilorin on Saturday, the convener of MMGIVIT Charity Initiative, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi said the gesture was to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged through distribution of free valuable items.


Professor Akanbi commended various Community Development Associations in the state  for working assiduously with his team to ensure that those who are in need of the items are actually selected for the gifts.


He explained that people were given tags which qualified them to undergo medical screening after which they go to free zone to pick items of their choice.


He expressed satisfaction over the manner in which this year edition of the programme went as it was well organised with absolute decorum despite the large turnout of people.


The convener explained that this year programme was unique in the sense that they introduced free health screening, food stuff,  while materials were also given out free unlike in the previous years when token was collected from people.

He commended people for supporting the idea by donating materials to the initiave from across the country and beyond, saying that their donations and contributions have actually helped them to go this far.

Also speaking at the occasion, a Professor of Law at Bowen University, Mosunmola Imasogie appreciated MMGIVIT Charity Initiative for it’s interest in giving back to the society.


Professor Imasogie particularly commended the NGO for the free health screening, for focusing more on women and for making everything free this year, saying that it would go a long way in adding value to the lives of the beneficiaries.


She called on people, irrespective of their status in life, to cultivate the habit of giving, saying that it is not necessary for one to be rich before giving out, adding that people can give their time to visit the sick in the hospital or the old ones who have become lonely as a result of their age.


“There is nobody that is so poor that cannot give love, giving is not limited to those that are rich. If you are poor you can give your time to visit the sick or the elderly people that are lonely, it is an act of giving” she advised.


Also speaking, the leader of the medical team at the occasion, Dr (Mrs) Mobolaji Ojibara said three Doctors, three Nurses and other Medical personnel were attending to people to check their health status ranging from blood pressure, random blood sugar, BMI and many other related tests.


Dr Ojibara lauded the initiave and discribed the gesture as ultimate which she said every body should be willing to do for the society.

She called on Governments at all levels to introduce quarterly free medical screening for the less privileged as this, according to her, would go a long way to assist them to live a healthy life.


The event was attended by dignitaries across the country including Professors, captains of industries, technocrats among others.
