Kwara NDLEA arrests 173 suspects in 2019- Commander

The Commander of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kwara State Command, Mr Ambrose Umoru has said that the command arrested 173 suspects over various drug related offences in 2019 in the state.

Speaking at the end of the year programme and presentation of awards to deserving officers of the command, held at the Command’s premises, Sobi road, Akerebiata area, Ilorin, Mr Umoru disclosed that the figure of the arrested suspects comprises 137 males and 36 females.

He disclosed that the command recorded a seizure of 2,169.177 kilogrammes of narcotic drugs and psychotropics substances.

According to him the arrest and seizure was achieved following command’s motorized patrols, raid operations in smoking joints, suspected houses/premises, stop and search operations as well as various anti-drug abuse education programmes.

The NDLEA commander therefore ascribed the success recorded during the year under review to collaborative efforts and supports of sister security agencies in the state like Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, Civil Deffence, Nigeria Immigration Service and other stakeholders.

He called on members of the public to continue to furnish the command with useful information about drug dealers and drug users in order to eradicate the menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking of drug from the state.

He gave assurance that the command would not rest on its oars in her frantic efforts to circumvent the tricks and antics of cartels and bring them to justice.

Umoru said the event was organised to bring all officers of the command together in a relaxed atmosphere and to also serve as a platform for appraising their performance, scorecard and intelligence demand and control strategies.

The occasion, which had in attendance, the state Commissioner for Police Mr Kayode Egbetokun, State Sector Commander of FRSN, state Head of NAFDAC Mrs Roslen Ajayi, Head of Prison Service in the state among others, also featured presentation of awards to 9 deserving officers of state NDLEA
