…records highest singular seizure of cannabis sativa in the state
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kwara state command has intercepted a J5 vehicle with registration number DDM 75 XA (Katsina) ladden with 757 kilogrammes of compressed Cannabis sativa, also known as India helm, along Ilorin-Jebba-Makwa highway.
The Command also arrested one Unma Chuwu Chinese (50) with a total of 2.8 kilogrammes of Psychotropic substances in Ilesha Baruba, Kwara state, who was said to have ordered the exhibit from Kano state.
The NDLEA state Commander, Umoru Ambrose disclosed this on Friday during a press briefing at the command, saying that the recovered exhibit was the highest singular seizure of cannabis in the state command since its inception.
Ambrose disclosed further that three suspects were arrested in connection with the recovered exhibit and they are identified as Namani Musa, who is the driver of the vehicle along side with two collaborators; Faruku Bala and Abu Dogo.
The commander said the culprits were arrested on Tuesday (December 10th, 2019) along Jebba road while convening the exhibit from Abekuta, Ogun state, in a false bottom compartment of the J5 vehicles traveling to Sokoto.
He assured that efforts are on to track down other members of the syndicate in both Abekuta and Sokoto.
He said the culprits will soon be arraigned in the Federal High Court, in Ilorin for prosecution.
Similarly, Ambrose also noted that one Unma Chuwu Chinese was also arrested on Friday (December6, 2019) with a total of 2.8 kilogrammes of Psychotropic substances in Ilesha Baruba from Kano state
“The suspect had ordered for the illicit drug Tramadol 225 and Diazepam from Kano and was waiting for the consignment to be delivered to him before it was intercepted in a stop and search operation of the Commands’ operatives. The suspect was subsequently arrested and he is currently undergoing investigation and would be arraigned at the Federal High Court, Ilorin as soon as possible” Commander disclosed.
He disclosed further that the command had arrested total of 119 suspects between July and December 2019.
” In giving the Commands’ score card for 2019, it is imperative to state that the Command has since July, 2019 when I assumed duty arrested a total of one hundred and nineteen (119) suspects with a combined seizure of 1,406.55 kilogrammes mainly of Cannabis sativa; Tramadol tablets of the banned threshold” . Mr Ambrose revealed.
He explained that a total of 67 of the 119 suspects mainly apprehended during dislogement raids t illicit joints in the state, while 14 of them were counselled, treated and reintegrated with their families.
He added that 18 of the cases have so far been charged to Court while investigation of over 20 suspects are being conducted, saying that three (3) were recorded within the period pointing out that trial in the remaining cases are on going.
He therefore called on members of the public to continue to support the command with useful information on the activities of miscreants who engage in in illicit drug business, especially at this time of Yuletide season when drug dealers plan to make guick money by peddling in illicit drug and Psychotropic susbstances during Christmas and new year celebrations.
