Foreign foundation donates 3500 textbooks to pupils in Kwara

A United Kingdom based Non Governmental Organization, BHAMUSON Foundation has donated 3500 textbooks to pupils of some selected primary schools in Kwara State.

The textbooks donated included Mathematics, English Language, Quantitative, Verbal Reasoning, Physical Health, Social Studies, Yoruba Language, Agricultural Science among other subjects covering primary 1 to primary 6.

Pupils of Adeta ‘ A’ LGEA and Apalara / Adewole LGEA schools in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State were the beneficiaries of the good gesture.

Speaking during the presentation of the textbooks to pupils of Adeta A LGEA school, Ilorin, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees for BHAMUSON Foundation, Hajia Hawa Nuru said the gesture was to aid the teaching and learning at primary school level.

She explained that BHAMUSON decided to focus more of its programmes on primary schools to build a solid foundation for pupils of public primary schools.

Hajia Nuru observed that there were more brilliants pupils from poor background whose parents could not afford to pay their school fees, hence the need for the foundation to support them to realise their potentials becomes imperative.

She disclosed that the foundation is a non governmental organization based in United Kingdom established to assist the less privileged pupils in Nigeria and other needy African countries.

According to her “We decided to support the children of downtrodden parents in the society through the provision of free relevant text books, school uniforms, school sandals, school fees and sporting T-shirts”.

She appealed to the school management to properly monitor the textbooks so that it could serve the purpose.

She advised the school management to create a library to keep the materials for the reference purpose and for proper up keep, promising to donate computers for the school if the books were properly managed.

Hajia Nuru said that the organization had earlier sunk a hand pump borehole for the use of pupils and the staff, adding that the neighbouring communities were also enjoying the borehole.

She said “I’m impressed on the academic performance of the pupils, the organization will from time to time demand from the schools the academic results of each of the sponsored pupil”, assuring that more pupils would be sponsored if the tempo was maintained.

The chairman of the occasion who is also LGEA Education Secretary for Ilorin West Local Government, Mallam Abdulwahab Oniye appreciated the organization for what he described as “undeserved donation” to the pupils of the schools.

He said only the ingrates people would not appreciate philanthropic gesture and kindness of the foundation, promising that his office would properly monitor and protect the books.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Head Teachers of Adeta ‘A’ LGEA school, Mallam Issa Ayinde Jimoh and the Head Mistress of Apalara / Adewole LGEA, Hajia Rafat Onagun
appreciated the foundation for the laudable contributions.

The Head Teachers solicited more physical, human and material resources, such as sporting facilities, electrification, rehabilitation of existing structures in their schools, provision of computers among others.
