Why President Buhari will perform better in his second term – Onilu

Onilu

The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mallam Issa Onilu has said that the key elements in the curridor of power that are responsible for the policy surmasurt in the outgoing government in Nigeria have been thoroughly defeated.

He expressed confidence that their absence in the second term of president Muhammadu Buhari will afford the good people of Nigeria ample opportunity to witness tremendous policy implementations and programmes that will move the country to an enviable standard.

He said those who served as a clog in the progress of this outgoing government have been ejected from the system as some of them would not have the opportunity to return to the National Assembly.

Onilu disclosed this in Ilorin, the kwara state capital after casting his vote on Saturday, pointing out that it is a thing of joy to Nigerians that some of the key elements in the National Assembly who turned themselves to opposition have been prevented from coming back by their People.

“Unlike the outgoing tenure where we have National Assembly that turned itself to an opposition and thankfully the key elements in that Assembly have been thouroghly defeated now, they are not going to be returned. Now, we expect smooth relationship between the legislature and the executive arms of government which is very key to good governance, and very key to policy implementation and programmes.

“With this new development, we expect that there will be better environment for the President to carry through his policies for the benefit of this country” Onilu added.

He congratulated Nigerians over the success recorded in the just concluded 2019 general elections, saying that the peaceful conduct of the poll is a clear demonstration of the fact that we have the resillience to continue to survive as a country and move together for the progress and advancement of our dear country.

Speaking about the obvious voting apathy recorded across kwara state during the governorship and house of assembly elections, the APC National Publicity Secretary said the low turnout was attributable to the resounding success APC recorded during the last Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

According to him, the results of the Presidential and National Assembly elections have demoralized members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

“Apathy is attributed to the pattan of results of the last election in kwara state. The gap was too much, there is no way people who lost so badly will not be demoralized. They were demoralized and they didn’t know what next to do to reach that massive gap. They were not even ready to come up at all, perhaps many of them gave up” he said.

While thanking God for the way and manner the election went in the state, Onilu said the poll was peaceful, and the security personnel were up and doing to maintain peace and order.

Onilu commended INEC for being impartial and transparent in the conduct of the election and advised all members and supporters of APC to be vigilant and keep an eye on every stage of the election process to ensure that the result of the election reflects the popular wish of the people.

While saying that a winner must emerge in any contest, Onilu was confident that APC will record a clean sweep in all the 16 local government areas of the state, just as he said that the poll was generally adjuged to be very credible, peaceful and fair.
