A Non Governmental Organisation, #PickThatTrash” at the weekend joined hands with the kwara state government
in its efforts at making the state a cleaned, tidy and healthy society.
This joint effort was demonstrated on Saturday by clearing the trash from Challenge, Yoruba road Market to the State Library area of Ilorin in collaboration with Kwara state Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
The Leader of the Team, Miss Baliqees Salaudeen who led the group in the cleaning alongside with some volunteers said the programme had already been flagged off in three other states as a way of propagating the culture of sustainable clean and healthy environment.
Miss Salaudeen said the #PickThatTrash is a nationwide clean up campaign to encourage the culture of proper waste disposal in the identified locations for pickup of trash and the entire state in order to safeguard the environment.
Miss salaudeen called for attitudinal change among traders in Ilorin to their environment in order to attract more customers.
She noted that clean environment brings about good health and enjoined traders to endeavour to make their Shop environment clean to avert some preventable diseases that can emanate from unkempt environment.
The Team Lead who encouraged Shop owners to be responsible for the cleaning of their respective environment appealed to them to ensure a tidy environment with a view to attracting more customers to the market.
“We believe customers may be discouraged from coming to this market if it’s not kept while we are using that to encourage traders, shop owners and inhabitants of this area to desist from dumping refuse indiscriminately,” Miss Salaudeen explained.
Miss Salaudeen also called on government at all levels, corporate organisations and individuals to support #PickThatTrash in mobilising every Nigerian to be conscious in managing waste in homes, offices, neighbourhoods, communities and states for a clean Nigeria.
The team swept and packed all the trash to the waiting waste collector truck provided by the State Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
