UNILORIN: A19-year old graduand breaks jinx

A 19-year old Raji Khalid Olatunji, of the Department of Sociology, University of Ilorin today took everybody in the auditorium by surprise as he was announced as a First Class graduand, a feat that has never been attained by any student for the past 42 years the Department was established.

His class of degree as a First Class product of a Department that has never produced first class graduand in its history attracted a lot of accolades, encomiums and commendations as most guests in the auditorium were exchanging pleasantries with him shortly after he had a handshake with the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sulyman Age Abdulkareem.

His outstanding academic performance clearly shows that impossibility can be made possible.

Announcing his Class of Degree today at a well attended first segment of the 33rd convocation ceremony of the University of Ilorin, the Dean of Faculty of Social Science, Professor Basiru Salawu, described the young Khalid as a jinx breaker and a record breaker.

The Dean said Khalid Raji has made a name being the first student of Sociology Department of the University of Ilorin to graduate with a First Class Degree since the inception of the Department about 42 years ago.

Professor Salawu who also announced other students who bagged First Class Degree from the faculty of Social Science, proudly invited Khalid and his colleagues to have a handshake with the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Sulyman Age Abdulkareem.

Speaking with our reporter on the sideline of the event, the young Khalid attributed his success stories to hardworking and fervent prayers.

He appreciated his lecturers for imparting sound and qualitative knowledge in him and gave thanks to his parents for giving him solid Islamic and moral backgrounds.

Khalid hails from Iwo in Osun State and attended Titilola Memorial College, a Private School in Osogbo, Osun state.

The second segment of the convocation continues tomorrow Saturday 21st of October, 2017 at the University auditorium while commissioning of projects at different site of each project will follow immediately.
