The New Chairman of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Kwara State chapter, Abdulganiyu Bello has said there is a new down in the Kwara chapter of the association.

He stated this on Friday during a chart with our reporter in his office.

According to him,’ the new administration of NBA in the state has heralded a new dawn that is devoid of rancor and factionalism.

“Every association has it’s hitches. In the past we have a strong bar in Ilorin, but in the recent time we had some debacles. But now, we are more united than before.

” Recently we have one of our senior member who was on sick bed, and it amazed me how other members of the Kwara NBA came to his aid,” Bello said.

He added that his emergence as the new chairman of Kwara chapter of Nigeria Bar Association has foster unity among members as there wasn’t any post election rancor amid the contestants in the state.

“The day I was announced as the winner , my runners up at the pole, Biodun Dada was the first to congratulate me. In fact there was not any rancor before and after the NBA elections. There is no faction in our bar any longer, ” he stressed.

Bello further attributed his victory at the NBA elections as an act of God and pledged to make the welfare of lawyers in the state his topmost priority.

“I can only say that it is an act of God that I will become the NBA chairman at this time. The elections was keenly contested and to the glory of God I emerged with 24 votes ahead of my runners up.

” Just as it is contains in my manifesto, I promised to increase the welfare of the members of bar in the state as the peculiarity of Kwara doesn’t encourage lawyers in the state. Most people here do not encourage the services of a close lawyer, rather they engaged the services of outsiders and when they ran into problems they came back to us.

” In this profession there is no gratuity, no pension. So as a new boss of the association, it is incumbent on us to put in place a workable welfarism packages for ourselves and particularly for our elders. I want to see to this issue of welfare of our members.

“For instance if members are paying their practicing fees promptly to the association, if such a lawyer has an issue, the NBA as a union should be able to come to his aid”, he added.

Reacting to the high rate of rapist in the country, the NBA boss traces the problem to dwindling in the moral value system in the society.

” We have many factorial causes that led to the incessant cases of rape in the country. It seems we have deviated from the way we lived in the time past as a result of civilization especially this issue of social media.

“You can’t imagine the immortality conducts displayed on this television program called BBniger without any stringent regulations from the government. Things like this exposes our youths to all shorts of vices we witnesses today because they would want to practice it.

” There are some school of thought which says even if you see a naked person, that doesn’t mean you should commit adultery with her. We have to curb the way we behave in the society as well. There should be a limit to Internet accessibility.

“In Saudi Arabia for instance, there is a regulation which resist access to Internet. Over there you don’t have preview to phonographic, but here in Nigeria our youths are grossly engulfed in this act. All these are part of reasons rapist are increasing in Nigeria, ” Bello said.

He however charged the government to put in place a special court for criminal cases with time limits.
