PSH warns teenagers against premarital sex

Nigerian girls that have attained puberty age have been warned not to engage in premarital sex in order to have a sound education and prosperous life.

A Principal Medical Officer, from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Health Center, Ogbomoso, Dr (Mrs) Idayat Jimoh gave the warning in her lecture at the a seminar on ‘Fitting into Puberty’ organised by the Pious Safe Haven, held on Saturday (November 16, 2019) at African Hall, University of Ilorin Mini Campus, Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

Dr Jimoh said premarital sex is an act that destroys girl’s life, education, and future, and strongly warned them to refrain from any act that may lure them into the act.

She said Islam forbids premarital sex and whoever indulged in it would be punished by Allah.

She advised ladies of puberty age to be confident in themselves and not hestitate to report whoever that is trying to touch or harrash them sexually to either their parents or any constituted authority.

Jimoh advised to remain virgin until they get married, saying that being a virgin is a pride and very rewarding before Allah.

Dr Jimoh also advised parents to consider it as a point of duty, the need to give their female children sex education in order to serve as a guide for them from hands of unscrupulous male counterparts.

Also speaking at the seminar, a lecturer at the Department of Counsellor Education, University of Ilorin, Dr (Mrs) Falilat Okesina, advised ladies and parents against negative impact of Social Media.

Dr Okesina said social media was invented to make life bearable for people, saying that despite these positive roles of social media, it is seriously aiding series or suicide commissions by students.

She disclosed that over one million people died of suicide annually across the world.

Okesina therefore called on people to report anyone suspected to be a loner or showing a sign of depression to counselling center to rescue such a person from taking his life prematurely.

Also in her lecture at the seminar, a Chief Nursing Officer at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Mrs Salahudeen Fatimo, advised toung ladies on the need to be very hygienic during mensuration.

Fatimo explained that keeping body neet and tidy during menstrual period will prevent them from infection and other deseases associated with reproductive system.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Kwara state Coordinator of Pious Safe Haven (PSH), Hajia Taibat Muhammed said ‘Fitting into Puberty’ is a school-based initiative for Muslim Teenagers organised by Pious Muslim Women International Organisation (PMWIO).

Hajia Muhammed said PMWIO is a non Governmental Organisation that provides support for Muslim women, added that the organisation educates, enlightens, and empowers it’s members with the necessary tools required to become better Muslimahs, mothers, daughters, wives, and citizens.

She explained that the seminar was targeted at sensitising Muslim teenagers towards fitting into Puberty’ which include different health related topics, pointing out that similar programme had been successfully carried out in Ogbomoso, Abeokuta, and Lagos, promising that it would be replicated in other parts of the country.
