Four students bag BAGYUM schorlaship, as varsity lecturers back vocational skills

Director of School of Preliminary Studies, University of Ilorin, Professor Mohammed Mustapha Akanbi (SAN) has advised parents and guardians to train their children towards developing positive mental interest in entrepreneurship in addition with western and Islamic education for them to become self sufficient after their educational programmes.

Akanbi, who is a Professor of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) also, advocated for heavy investment in girls child education in order to unlock their God’s given talents.

Akanbi who lectures at the faculty of Law, University of Ilorin gave the advice on Sunday (September 16, 2018) in his address at the End of the Summer Lesson and Prize Giving Ceremony organised by Balogun Gambari Youth Movement (BAGYUM) held at Karuma Primary School, Ilorin.

He explained that western education alone without vocational training is not enough to attain economic security in this present Nigeria.

Akanbi also canvassed for the need to uncover the potentials of the young ones by directing their attention to vibrant and credible innovations that will bring fame and honour to them and the community in general.

Also in his comment, the former Director of the Center for International Education, University of Ilorin, Professor Mohammed O. Ibrahim described vocational education as a credible way for sustainable economic freedom.

Professor Ibrahim called on people of Gambari area to look inward and showcase their talents especially the popular fashion designing Center at Gambari area, saying that the agelong tailoring and designing center In Gambari is an international standard.

In his lecture, the Deputy Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Dr Abdul Jimoh who was the guest speaker on the occasion, emphasised the importance of knowledge acquisition, saying that qualitative education is an automatic ticket to attain greatness in life.

The Deputy Rector advised youth to seek for knowledge even if it will take them outside their environment, pointing out that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) enjoined all Muslim Ummah to continuously seek for knowlege from cradle to grave.

He urged youth to make knowledge acquisition their focal point of attention and warned against love for materials gain at their earlier life pointing out that wealth acquired fraudulently or unjustly does not give lasting joy.

He advised them to make knowledge their priority right from their early life, maintained that acquisition of sound knowledge will bring forth money, honour, success and everything that is required to live a better life.

Earlier in his welcome address, the President of the BAGYUM, Mallam Garuba Mukaila Sefura said the event was an annual programme that was designed to encourage and compensate best performing pupils and students that participated in the BAGYUM summer lesson.

Not less than four best students were presented with schorlaship award while other best students across classes went home with consolation prizes including mathematics text books that were donated to over 20 students by Professor M.O. Ibrahim.

Donors of the scholarship according to the President of BAGYUM, are Alhaji Dare Denkosi, Tajudeen Olesin Foundation, Dr Abdul Jimoh, Professor Mohammed Ibrahim, Malla Sakariyahu Sulaiman (Smart), Professor Biodun Amuda Kannike among others.

The recipients of the schorlaship include Sa’ad Islamiyat, Awodi Aliyu, Abdulrahaman Afusa among others.
