The management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Lapai, has increased the students’ school fees from the existing N27,000 across board to N55,000 for non indigenes only.

The decision came up on Tuesday after series of meetings with the state government over the possibility of enforcing difference in the payment of school fees between the indigenes of Niger state and the non indigenes.

This decision, by the state government, has led to mix feelings among students who are not  indigenes of Niger state as to the reason for this sudden action by the state government and management of the school.

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida university has since it’s year of establishment neither increased  nor created a dichotomy between indigenes and non indigenes of the state  until this sudden change

A student, who is a member of the student union but did not want his name to be mentioned said  “initially it was N68,000 and it is as a result of our meeting with the management that made them to reduce the money to N55,000”.

He said when consulted the student Union President of the school, the President said the school management insisted that  there was nothing they could do about it again.

Reacting to the development, the President of the student union of the institution, Comrade Mohammed Sokun said the union was making efforts to plead with the management to reduce the fees for non indigenes or maintain the existing  stipulated amount.
